Critical Oversight: The Importance of Experienced Structural Designers

In many multi-story projects, a window with a long length is considered in the staircase area to provide interior light in architectural design. Unfortunately, in the structural design phase, designers often overlook this section and design the wall where this tall window is placed uniformly.

I modeled a wall with a height of 8.2m (26' 9") under these conditions and applied a wind load of 158 kmh (98mph) to it. The profile used had a cross-section of 89mm( 3.5in) and a thickness of 1.2 mm (43mil). As the results indicate, this wall is severely weak and cannot withstand any lateral loads resulting from wind.

Dear employers: Please do not entrust structural design to inexperienced individuals.
